We were lucky enough to try out the new Nike Huarache Black Dark Grey recently, and we can tell you, they certainly didn’t disappoint. On foot images and official shots of shoes can give you a great idea of what they look like, but the only way to know what a sneaker truly feels like, is to slip a pair on yourself and take a walk around. That’s exactly what we did with this pair, so let us tell you what we think…
From the midsole upwards, this pair could be mistaken for the Triple Black edition. The main difference is substitution of the white tongue patch for a dark grey one. Other than that however, the appearance is very similar. A TPU cage wraps around the heel and gives the pair that classic Huarache look.
The neoprene sock liner is a not black, but instead, a very dark grey which you could mistake for black. This subtle change in colour works really well with the main feature of the shoe, the dark grey midsole.
It’s amazing what such a small difference can make to an iconic shoe such as the Huarache. We’re so used to seeing the Triple Black pair, when Nike make a tiny adjustment, the effect is much more impactful. Even the small bump details appear to jump off the midsole, as opposed to blend in, and get lost on the black edition.
It’s nice to see the midsole compress slightly as you shift your weight around in these shoes. They really are one of the most comfortable on the market. Much of that statement is based on the combination of the fitted neoprene bootie and soft sole underfoot.
We think if you’re looking to stray from the pack, and try a Huarache which is slightly different, this pair is an ideal selection.
